A Message From Your President
We are pleased to announce that the Current Pharmacogenomics (CPG in short) is affiliated with the Pacific Rim Association for Clinical Pharmacogenetics (PRACP), as the official society journal. A peer-reviewed journal with broad international circulation, CPG provides timely and comprehensive overviews of current research on pharmacogenomics and pharmacogenetics in the form of mini- and full-reviews. Under a single cover, the journal brings together all areas in the field from pre-clinical to clinical research, and the related complementary research areas such as genomics, proteomics, target discovery, bioinformatics and novel diagnostics. We note that the future PRACP conference proceedings, abstracts and selected presentations will be considered for publication at the CPG, subject to peer-review. We would like to encourage the PRACP members for submission of manuscripts to the CPG on emerging topics in their area of expertise.
The PRACP is now affiliated with the International Union of Pharmacology (IUPHAR) as an associate member society. A non-profit organization representing the interests of pharmacologists around the world, IUPHAR receives international recognition, particularly by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). IUPHAR is a non-governmental organization in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO). PRACP shares the vision with IUPHAR to promote and advance international cooperation, free exchange of ideas and develop public awareness on timely issues in pharmacology and therapeutics.
The 13th Annual Meeting of the PRACP will be held in Changsha on June 28 to 30, 2005, as a satellite to the 15th World Congress of Pharmacology in Beijing (IUPHAR-2006). An informative and exciting scientific program has been prepared for the PRACP-2006. The plenary sessions and the key scientific themes were organized to achieve a balance of pharmacogenetic theory, practical applications of pharmacogenetics at point of patient care or in clinical drug development, emerging biotechnologies as well as public policy and bioethics discourse. We thank the distinguished speakers and colleagues who kindly agreed to contribute to the scientific program for our next meeting in Changsha. Detailed conference and travel information is now available at the congress web site (http://www.iuphar2006changsha.com/).
The Bentham Science Publishers, a respected and recognized leader as a publisher of biomedical journals, will offer the PRACP members, the IUPHAR affiliate societies and their individual members, subscription to the CPG at a significantly reduced rate, for both online and print editions. For information on membership at the PRACP and the benefits of membership, please contact Dr. Someya at psy@med.niigata-u.ac.jp. The PRACP membership dues are kept at a modest rate to allow equitable access to the Association across the Pacific Rim countries.

In summary, the CPG and recent affiliation at the IUPHAR as an associate member society will provide the PRACP members with access to diverse and complementary discussion forums and professional interest groups in clinical pharmacogenetics, genomics, personalized medicine and inter-ethnic variations in drug response, public health and policy. We would like to express our special thanks to Professors Anna Di Rienzo and Min-Soo Lee, Co-Chairs for the Academic and Public Affairs Committee, John O. Miners (Councilor, PRACP) for leadership and contribution to this initiative, Professors Ann K. Daly, M. Eileen Dolan and Edmund J.D. Lee (Editors, CPG) and Dr. Matthew Honan (Bentham Science Publishers) for their enthusiastic support of the cooperation between the PRACP and the Current Pharmacogenomics. As PRACP, we also look forward to our continued dialogue and exchange of expertise with colleagues at the IUPHAR.
